National badminton idol Lee Chong Wei is set to renew his old rivalry with Lin Dan of China in the second round of the Japan Open.
The 33 year-old, who is playing his first Super Series since his suspension last year, was made to work hard but eventually came from a game down to beat Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 10-21, 21-15, 21-16 in over an hour.
Fifth seed Lin Dan was also pushed to a three-set match by Son Wan Ho of South Korea, before sealing the deciding game 17-21, 25-23, 21-17.
Although it’s still as early as the second round in the competition, Chong Wei-Lin Dan rivalry has been going on for quite some time and is expected to be a very competitive match, with both players aiming to get the better of their respective opponents.
