Malaysian swimmer Welson Sim claimed a first silver medal today in the men’s 200m freestyle at the 5th Commonwealth Youth Games, held in Samoa.
The 18 year-old Sarawakian came second the winner with a recorded time of 1: 49. 22 minutes, to deliver the country’s first medal in the competition.

Up to 1000 young Commonwealth athletes aged 14-18 will represent their country and compete for 107 gold medals in 9 sports, at the Pacific island nation of Samoa, from 5-11 September 2015.
Commonwealth Youth Games is labelled as a spring board to future Commonwealth games glory, with Malaysia sending representatives in eight other sports besides aquatics – squash, archery, atheletcs, boxing, lawn bowls, rugby seven-a-side, tennis and weightlifting.
