Temporary coach Ong Kim Swee insists that bringing back Harimau Malaya’s reputation is far more important than personal glory.
Although Ong is still under his contract with the national Under-22 squad until the end of the year, some people have stated that this will be his best chance to prove his ability in order to replace the departed Dollah Salleh.
In spite of that, the former national player refuses to think about the decision, which will be taken by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) after the 2018 World Cup/2019 Asia Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia.
“No player or coach wants a result like that (the loss against UAE). I believe the players will be able to rise again, and I hope my appointment as the coach will at least bring back the confidence in players and among our fans,” he told Arena Metro.
Kim Swee also hopes for a better disciplined outing against the 93rd ranked Saudi Arabia.
This would not be the first time for Kim Swee, 44, to take over temporarily as he was also in charge during the year 2013, after K Rajagopal’s contract ended with the national team.
