The 1Malaysia PSM National Sepak Takraw Championship Grand Prix (GP) will continue its second round with 12 teams racing to book their place in the top eight standings at the Titiwangsa Stadium.
Penang, who claimed the first round after defeating Malacca, will be among the teams fighting to win prize money worth RM 11, 000 during each level.
Currently Penang has 200 points, followed by Malacca (160 points), Kuala Lumpur/Kedah (120 points) with Johor/Negeri Sembilan/Kelantan/Putrajaya (80 points) completing the top eight so far.
It is expected to be a racy climb towards the top with Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM), Selangor, Terengganu and Perlis (40 points) all have a chance to be in the eight best teams, thus getting the chance to participate in the GP 1Malaysia PSM final from 29th September to 1st October.
Secretary General of the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM), Datuk Mohd Radzuan Abdullah said that the championship will serve as an addition to the other existing competitions, besides maintaining confidence level of players.
“This tournament becomes a stage to scout talented athletes, who we need for SEA Games and Asian Games. It also gives a valuable exposure to the team management,” he told Sinar Harian.
