Azizulhasni Awang has reaffirmed his desire to become the first Malaysian track cyclist to secure a top three finish at the Rio Olympics next year.
The Terengganu-born athlete is already regarded as a living legend within the country, for his international accolades, but Azizulhasni is now ready to take his career to the next level.
“The pre-season has been going exceptionally well for me. John Beasley (National Track Cyling Head Coach) and I are extremely happy with things,” he told Harian Metro.
“We will setting our targets for the Olympics and winning a medal is now the aim. Prior to the London Olympics, I had to recover from an injury, but this time around, I’m fully fit and doing well in pre-season itself.
Azizulhasni clinched victory in the Keirin event at the Japan Track Cup, before going on to win three events at the Southeast Asia Grand Prix last week.
He will now return to Melbourne and continue training, ahead of the World Championships in London, as well as the Rio Olympics, next year.
