Pulau Pinang’s Mohd Faiz Subri and Johor’s Junior Eldstal have been called up to join the national squad after injury to two players ahead of their 2018 World Cup/ 2019 Asian Cup qualifying campaign.
Head coach Dollah Salleh said the replacement players will be joining the team training session starting tomorrow.
Striker Faiz and defender Eldstal will be replacing Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and Idris Ahmad, who were confirmed to be carrying a serious injury by the team doctor, yesterday.
“I am confused and worried at the same time because players tend to be injured when called upon to play for the national team. I do hope these things will not be happening again,” Dollah told Berita Harian.
He also insists that the current haze which surrounds the Klang Valley area will not be a problem during the training session.
“What worries me is their fitness level. Looking at some of the players who are still tired after the end of their respective leagues, I’m hesitant to push. We are now focussing on the recovery process first.”
The Malayan Tigers are scheduled to face two crucial matches against United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, which will decide their qualifying chances to the Asian Cup in 2019.
