Lewis Hamilton sent warning signals to his rivals after his devastating win in the Belgian Grand Prix, where he started and ended the race in pole position on Sunday.
The Formula One defending champion now has a commanding 28 points lead over Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg in the overall standings, with eight races remaining.
Rosberg did come in second, completing a Mercedes one-two finish, with Frenchman Romain Grosjean of Lotus taking a surprising third position after Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel suffered a right rear tyre failure that forced him to retire.
“Today was a dream and the car was fantastic all weekend,” said Hamilton, who controlled the race from opening lap.
“I was never in position where I felt nervous. I had great pace in the car. There was no real need to push more than I had to,” he told Eurosport.
It was the 30 year-old’s sixth win of the season, 39th of his F1 career. He now has 227 points to Rosberg’s 199.
Hamilton also equalled the mark of the late great Ayrton Senna with his 80th podium finish.
