Celebrations galore as Kedah and Penang secure MSL promotion

It’s confirmed!

Two footballing giants in the form of Kedah and Penang will be making a return to the Malaysia Super League after finishing first and second on the Premier League table, respectively.

Kedah were relegated two years ago, while Penang’s last appearance in the Super League came in 2010. In fact, they were even relegated to the third-tier FAM League at one point, though both sides will now compete in the highest division of the country’s football league.

Kedah confirmed their promotion and their status as league champions after securing a major 5-1 win over DRB Hicom earlier today. The Canaries finished on top with 14 wins, six draws and merely two defeats this year. They amassed a total of 45 points, three more than second-placed Penang.

Hearts were broken in Terengganu though, as T-Team’s defeat to Kuantan FA condemned them to a frustrating third place finish, despite going into the weekend on equal points with Penang.

Kedah and Penang’s return to the MSL also means that there would be far more state-based teams in the league, all of whom have massive fan bases as well.
