Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed a deal to secure the signature of Clinton Njié from Olympique Lyonnais, pending international clearance and work permit.
With Roberto Soldado moving to Villareal over the last 48 hours or so, Spurs’ hunt for a striker intensified and they opted to press on and complete a deal for the 22 year-old Cameroon international.
This could also mean that Spurs will now officially end their interest in West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino, who was being consistently linked with a move to White Hart Lane over the last few years.
Judging by his age, and his alleged price (somewhere between £10-15m), Mauricio Pochettino seems to have secured a major coup, with the player being very highly rated all over Europe. There is no doubt that Njié will be play second fiddle to Harry Kane, and that’s probably what he needs at this point, to get accustomed to a highly physical league without any major pressure on his shoulders.
If you’re a Spurs fan, you’d probably be wondering as to how Njié functions on the pitch as a forward. Attached below is a video that best represents what Njié will offer as an attacking outlet for the Lilywhites.
