2014 was a year to forget for mixed doubles shuttler Goh Liu Ying.
After undergoing surgery on both her knees, the 26 year-old was out for almost nine months, spending most of her time outside the court.
But since returning from injury this year and renewing her partnership with Chan Peng Soon in February, Liu Ying had all the right reasons to smile as the duo bagged three titles; notably the KL Open, the Polish International Challenge and Russian Open title, last month.
And those achievements were soon rewarded as the world no. 29 pair were included in the upcoming squad for the World Championships in Jakarta, held this August 10-16.
“We are fired up for a good outing in Jakarta, ever since we got the news right after winning the Russian Open. I still need to take good care of my knees which are not completely healed yet, but we are certainly high on confidence and surely give our best shot at it,” Goh told the Malay Mail.
The pair also was backed up by BAM technical director Morten Frost, who said: “They certainly have the chance to get pass the first round. Should they progress, it will be a tall order for them later as they will probably face the pair I tipped to be the title favourites (Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir), but if they win, anything can happen.”
