Malaysia’s hopes at the 2015 World Junior Squash Championships were dashed as national player Ng Eain Yow bowed out in the semi-final in Eindhoven, Netherlands, yesterday.
Ng is the country’s brightest chance at the 22nd edition championship, but was defeated 4-11, 2-11, 1-11 by first seed and also the previous title holder, Diego Elias of Peru.
Nevertheless, the 17-year-old Kuala Lumpur born athlete was proud of his overall performance in the tournament, admitting that his opponent was unbeatable in the semis.
“I was enjoying the match regardless of all the running. I have faced many talented players in the PSA (Professional Squash Association) championship but never been tested like this. Diego was on a completely different level,” said Ng, as quoted by Berita Harian.
Ng will next compete in the sixth leg of the Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit (SSJM) in Kangar from Aug 11-14.
Meanwhile, women’s squash team will open their challenge in the team event today, where they are included in Group D together with Germany, Hong Kong, Guyana and hosts Netherlands.
