Defending champion, Danny Chia is gunning down another victory at the Sapura Kencana Golf Championship in Kuala Lumpur Golf Club & Country (KLGCC), beginning this August 3rd.
The winner of this tournament will also get an automatic entry to the prestigious CIMB Classic Championship, aside from prize money worth RM 150, 000.
Chia, who will be making his third appearance in this championship, is determined to defend his title even though he has just made a return after a back injury.
“I prefer playing in the KLGCC because the field is challenging. I’m also excited to take part in another local championship,” said the 42-year-old, as quoted by Berita Harian.
When asked about the changes to the golf field for upcoming championship, Chia added that it would not be a problem as he has been training in the same field for the past few weeks.
Chia’s statement came during the championship announcement by Senior Vice President of Engineering and Construction Sapura Kencana Petroleum Berhad, Zakirudding Mohamed, yesterday.
A total of 100 local golf players will be participating in the Sapura Kencana Championship, which is recognized by the Professional Golf Association of Malaysia.
