“Winning doesn’t mean improvement, attitude within an individual is more important.”
This statement came exclusively from men singles coach, Tey Seu Bock, who urged the national badminton players to change their mindset when it comes to winning.
“Winning is one thing, but what’s more crucial is to keep the momentum going. The attitude within the players has to be changed if they want to achieve that.”
“Our players have to rise up to the occasion when needed and give full attention in the game in order to achieve better success, especially during big tournaments in which they participate,” said Tey as stated in myMetro.
There are clear signs of trouble to be seen now, based on the performances of national shuttlers, during official matches and training sessions.
It shows a huge difference when compared to Lee Chong Wei, Malaysia’s sole hope so far in all tournaments.
“Everyone knows how Chong Wei plays. His determination, strength, focus, and character he shows in a match. I see the potential in our other players, but they have to change their approach to this game if they want to succeed in it.”
“I do hope all the national men singles shuttlers start improving themselves and do well from now on, instead of depending on Chong Wei to bring honour to the country,” he added.
Tey also admitted that although it is tough to replace a player of Chong Wei’s quality in the future, the prospect of having national players in the top 16 ranking is not impossible.
Inevitably, during Chong Wei’s absence from the scene due to his ban, other players such as Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin failed to produce results in their respective competitions.
