Johor DT 3-1 Selangor: ‘Old Guns’ inspire Southern Tigers to victory

Johor DT claimed a crucial victory to ensure that they remain hot on the heels of Pahang after seizing a 3-1 win over Selangor at the Larkin Stadium.

The entire Johor fooball fraternity was handed a shock yesterday, with the Johor Crown Prince announcing his resignation as the President of Johor FA.

But when the match kicked off, JDT showcased their intentions to not be embroiled in emotions as they controlled the tempo of the game from get-go. Within 11 minutes, they broke the deadlock through the evergreen Amri Yahya, who is co-incidentally an ex-Selangor man.

The Red Giants pushed hard in search of an equalizer, and they certainly did carve out several key chances, though their wastefulness continued to prevent them to making a breakthrough.

That being said, Andik Vermansyah restored parity during first half stoppage time, making it 1-1. Just when Mehmet Durakovic was hoping to have his boys in for a refreshing half time team talk, Johor DT restored their 2-1 lead just seconds before the whistle. This time around, it was Luciano Figueroa.

The late goal certainly took a toll on Selangor’s confidence, as Johor DT continued to dominate proceedings after the break, spraying passes around comfortably.

Their domination was ultimately converted into a third goal, with Figueroa finding the back of the net on the 79th minute mark, to hand the home side a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Despite Selangor’s best efforts, the home side eventually held on to claim the win, and ensure that they remain within two points of current league leaders, Pahang FA, as the league prepares to head into a temporary break.
