While most 18 year olds are showing off their newly gained licence and begging their parents to use the car, Akash has just achieved back to back victories in world racing events.
Just yesterday, he claimed his win at the Hockenheim Grand Prix, extending his Formula 3 Championship lead to 143 points, 54 more than second placed rival Jordi Weckx.
Before that, he produced another dominant performance to secure double victories in last weekend’s MSV Formula 3 Championship held in Belgium.
Till date, the 18-year-old has now won 7 from 8 of his 2015 races.
So what makes this boy so special?
The Malaysian driver first got behind the wheel at the tender age of 4, when his father let him drive a fun-cart at a local amusement park.
Soon when he was 14, Akash got the chance to race in real cars when he began driving in a junior formula car series.
At the age of 16, he was already driving in a big time racing series. He was part of KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG), who were the overall winners in the inaugural Asian Le Mans event at Inje Speedium in 2013.
In an interview for the Sports Car Illustrated after being the youngest driver to win the Series, Akash told that he was planning to focus on his single-seater racing career and start racing in Europe the following year.
And now, the Malaysian is racing under team Performance Racing in the Remus F3 Championship, regarded as the first major stepping stone for F1 hopefuls.
It has produced few of the world’s best racers, notably Micheal Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
Following his win in Hockenheim, Germany, even Franz Woss, the Managing Director of the Championship commented, “This is a very very quick driver and it’s great having someone of Akash’s stature in our series. We look forward to following the great career ahead of him.”
With his rise in the world of racing, it’s only a matter of time for Akash to fulfil his dream of competing in the coveted Formula One event in order to further make our country proud.
