Azraai Khor Abdullah has reportedly stepped down from his role as Kelantan’s head coach, just one day after they suffered a miserable 3-0 defeat against LionsXII in Singapore.
The former Perak head coach was hired to replace George Boateng, in what was a bizarre decision last March, though Azraai has visibly struggled to produce positive results during his tenure.
Fans have been slamming him on social media for a considerable amount of time, though the pressure inevitably got to Azraai after last night’s defeat to LionsXII. According to a source, the 62 year-old head coach submitted his resignation this afternoon.
His stint with the Red Warriors got off to a poor start, as they suffered a defeat against Terengganu in the first East-Coast derby of the season. But as the days progressed, things became far more difficult for Azraai to handle, with his first victory coming in his fifth game in charge – a 3-0 win over Sime Darby in the FA Cup.
He eventually led Kelantan to the final of the competition, beating the mighty Pahang on home soil in the process, though they eventually succumbed to a 3-1 defeat in the final. Since then, things went on a downward spiral.
In retrospect, the number exhibit most of fans’ frustrations as well. They have only won once in the Super League under his guidance; a 2-1 win over Selangor in April. The situation is a lot more worse, when you look at the bigger picture. Kelantan only won a total of 3 games under Azraai Khor, which represents a mere 25% winning percentage.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Kelantan FA and Azraai Khor just yet, though an announcement is expected to be made in the next 48 hours.
