Ramon Calderon says that Sergio Ramos has told the club’s hierarchy that he wants to move to Manchester United.
Ramos, 30, has played for Real Madrid since 2005 – where he joined from Sevilla as a promising teenager for €27 million euros. He would go on to become one of the club’s most pivotal players in their modern history with former coach Carlo Ancelotti comparing him to legendary defender Paolo Maldini.
However, reports of frustrations over contract negotiations have linked him to a summer move to join Louis Van Gaal in Manchester.
And now, former Real Madrid president Calderon has revealed that Ramos is sad and believes that his desire to move is not motivated by money, but rather a lack of sentiment shown by Real Madrid.
“I know Sergio has told the general manager to listen to offers they get from Manchester United,” said Calderon as quoted by the BBC.
“He only wants to go to United.” He continued.
“Things are in a very bad situation, as time has gone on, things have not only not improved, they have got worse.
“Now it is not a question of money. It is a lack of affection the player is feeling from Real Madrid.”
Ramos has two years left on his current contract.
He scored the equalizing goal against local rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final two seasons ago and consequently helped Madrid to finally fulfil the La Decima dream.
