Ramadan not an obstacle- Nur Ira Fazierah John

National taekwondo athlete, Nur Ira Fazierah John, refuses to let the fasting month become and obstacle for her to shine bright in the upcoming Summer Universiade event in Gwangju, South Korea.

According to the Perlis native, the fasting month should not be made an excuse for her and her team mates to not do well in the event.

“I admit that there are some differences in the training sessions during the regular months and Ramadan. In the regular months, we train for about three or four sessions but right now we only train for two or three sessions only,” said Ira Fazierah as quoted from Kosmo.

“Hopefully, this would not become a burden for us. We are able to resist thirst and hunger throughout the whole training session during Ramadan. Therefore, I believe that fasting will not affect our performance later on,” she added.

Previously, Ira Fazierah had secured a gold medal in the Nonthaburi Taekwondo Championships and was even nominated as the most valuable athlete.

She will be taking part in the 73kg category in the upcoming event. However, she refuses to set high hopes of getting a gold medal.

“In the big scaled event, I can only do my best. Participants from around the world will be competing so it would not be an easy task.”

“I hope that the whole nation would be praying for everything to go smoothly,” she added.
