National badminton player Lee Chong Wei has returned to his winning form after being inactive for 8 months due to his suspension for doping violation.
Chong Wei had secured his first international title in 12 months today at the US Open Grand Prix Gold held in New York.
The former world number one made his incredible come back after he downed third seed Dane Hans Kristian Vittinghus in straight sets 22-20, 21-12 just within 39 minutes in the finals.
The first game was rather intense and Vittinghus was leading 19-16 but Chong Wei managed to bring the game to a tie 20-20, before ultimately claiming the set. The second set was a calm one for the Malaysian as the Dane was seen making a lot of mistakes.
Chong Wei, who won his last title in Japan a year ago, was delighted with the victory.
“I am happy to win the US Open in my first appearance in a tournament in nine months (at the World Championships,” said Chong Wei.
Chong Wei will proceed to Canada for his next game.
