Johor DT have announced plans to develop and build their own football academy that will occupy a 40-hectare land and serve the purpose of developing youth talent within the state.
The Southern Tigers have earned a reputation of being Malaysian moneybags, with regards to their massive investments on players within the first team. But the Johor Crown Prince himself has always maintained that their long-term aim will focus on youth development.
There have been minor efforts to formulate a more systematic effort within the state, but this latest announcement will certainly be a major stride in their plans to further develop the club and create a regional reputation for its plans and growth.
“The Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Academy, which will be located near the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) in Kulaijaya, will soon help JDT put one step ahead,” a statement on their official Facebook page read.
“The football academy, which will begin the construction in the next few days, is aimed to discover and nurture young talents in the long run.
“The 40-hectare academy is one of the projects planned by HRH Brigadier General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, the Crown Prince of Johor, who wants the Johor football development to begin from the grassroots level.”
Upon completion, the academy will feature world class facilities, as well as coaches from clubs like Borussia Dortmund, who are partners with Johor DT.
