National motorcycle racer Muhammad Zamri Baba was involved in a tragic accident during the SuperSports 600cc Race 1 at the Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia yesterday.
The Federation of International Motorcycling (FIM) confirmed that Zamri Baba, 31, who represented MuSASHi Boon Siew Honda Racing was hit by a rider moments after he had collided onto the gravel bed during Round 2 of the Asia Road Racing Championship.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital and now remains under medical supervision.
Another similar event took place in the SuperSports 600cc Race 2 where Indonesia’s M. Fadly Immammuddin collided with Thailand’s Jakkrit Sawangswat as they crossed the chequered flag. Fadly had won the race and intended to celebrate it but was unfortunately struck from behind.
According to the Indonesian media, some parts of Fadly’s left leg had crumbled following the fall and the worst case scenario would be to amputate it whereas Swangsat suffered two broken fingers.
