The national rugby squad is on a run to erase their dark past of losing out in the semi finals in the 2007 SEA Games in Korat.
Coach Nik Safuan Ismadi Nik Man claims that Malaysia presented a faultless display in downing their opponents but unfortunately stumbled in the climax.
“Most people thought that we could have set foot to the finals but we suffered a shocking defeat to Philippines and failed to even secure a bronze medal,” said Nik Safuan as quoted from Harian Metro.
Nik Safuan was a part of the national squad that played in the 2007 edition. He claims that as soon as he was appointed as coach to prepare for the 2015 SEA Games, it was the best chance to change the sorrowful memories to a happy one.
“We won easily in the group stage but were defeated when we played against Philippines in the semi finals. We even lost to Singapore and couldn’t take home a bronze medal because we were concerned about our main player’s injury.”
“We predict a tougher match this time but the national squad is ever ready to fight for glory and clinch the gold medal,” he added.
Nik Safuan had listed Thailand as one of the main rivals for the upcoming match.
“We have to be mentally strong to face strong opponents such as Thailand.”
The rugby event will commence this Saturday.
