French Open: Nishikori strides into quarters

Kei Nishikori proved himself stake-worthy of a good player as he rewrote history by becoming the first Japanese player to ever advance to the quarter finals of the French Open since 1933.

The fifth seed, who received a bye into round four, showed a flawless display of skill set in defeating Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili in straight sets.

Nishikori downed Gabashvili 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2 alongside breaking one serve in all matches.

“I think quarter final was the first goal for this week,” he said after the match.

“I hope it’s just the start of my journey and I hope I can keep going.”

Nishikori will play against 14th seeded Jo- Wilfried Tsonga next, as the Frenchman managed to secure his win against Tomas Berdych in four sets

The fourth seed Czech was outplayed ultimately with scores of 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (7-5) and 6-3.
