Ana Ivanovic successfully survived a late night scare when she defeated Misaki Doi in a rather intense match to effectively book her spot in the third round of the French Open last night.
Ivanonic, who won the 2008 title against Dinara Safina, certainly seems to have revived her form in recent times. The Serb was outperformed by Doi in the opening set 3-6, but she turned the tables to triumph 6-3, 6-4 in the next two sets.
She is now relishing the idea of facing 18 year-old Croat Donna Vekic in the third round.
“I actually saw her first match against [Caroline] Garcia. She has big serve, big game, she really goes for her shots,” Ivanovic said.
Meanwhile, reigning champion Maria Sharapova is not shedding her dominance yet as she calmly won over her Russian opponent Vitalia Diatchenko in just two sets.
The world number two was still battling with a cold as she was seen wearing long sleeves under the hot weather during her match against the 91st seed.
However, Sharapova will be facing a tough match in the third round, as she will be going up against 2010 runner-up and two-time semi finalist, Samantha Stosur of Australia.
