Malaysian badminton doubles head coach Jeremy Gan believes that Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong’s poor performance at the New Zealand Open will serve as a timely reminder ahead of the Sudirman Cup.
They were sent packing after losing two straight sets to Indonesian pair Markis Kido, Agripinna Prima. They were leading 15-8 at one point in the first set, before eventually losing 20-22. They went on to also lose the second set 13-21.
“Even though V Shem and Wee Kiong were defeated in New Zealand, they have identified their weaknesses so that they would not repeat the same mistakes during the Sudirman Cup,” Jeremy said as quoted from Sinchew.
“They were playing impatiently. When their opponents started to outplay them, they lost the rhythm and ended up being defeated. This experience is a lesson for them.”
The Sudirman Cup will get underway this weekend, and the Malaysian squad will be led by Lee Chong Wei, in what will be his first tournament in over eight months.
