Malaysians squash queen Nicol David has claimed her ninth Asian Championship title after securing a comfortable 3-0 win over Annie Au of Hong Kong yesterday.
Nicol only needed 36 minutes to dispatch Annie, winning 12-10, 11-7 and 11-8 in what was a rather one-sided final affair at the Sheikh/Salem Al-Sabah International Squash Complex in Kuwait.
Annie had eliminated another Malaysian in the semis, when she completed a narrow win over Delia Arnold.
The 31 year-old Nicol won her first Asian title in 1998, when she was merely 15 years-old, before going on to win it in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
The title is also her second triumph of the year, having clinched the Cleveland Classics last February. She will next compete in the British Open next week, where she’ll be looking to retain her title.
