National women’s doubles pair Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei were given a free ticket into the quarter-finals of Badminton Asia Championship after their opponents withdrew in the second round.
Aktar Shapla and Alina Sultana of Bangladesh’s withdrawal allowed Vivian and Khe Wei to set-up a last eight tie against China’s 36th seed Ma Jin-Yuanting.
The Chinese pair progressed from the second round after notching a comfortable win over Japan’s Reika Kakiiwa and Miyuka Maeda, beating them 21-13, 21-14.
Meanwhile, Chong Wei Feng is scheduled to take on China’s Tien Houwei today, having defeated Uzbekistan’s Artyom Savatyugin yesterday. Houwei on the other hand, had to endure a difficult match against South Korea’s Lee Dong Keun, before beating him in a three-set match to book his spot in the quarters.
