The NBA has already launched its award season with two awards; namely the Sixth Man of the Year and Coach of the Year, being handed out. However, there’s still an unfinished discussion on who is worthy of the most prestigious award; the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Many candidates have been thrown into consideration, but the top two on the list would have to be Golden State Warriors’ point guard Stephen Curry and Houston Rockets’ shooting guard James Harden. A set of analysis has been conducted with regards of both the Western Conference players.
Curry, 27 years of age, is considered the best player in the league’s best team as the Warriors have marked a franchise record of 67 wins prior to the playoffs. He is among the league leaders in scoring with an average of 23.8 points per game, 7.7 assists and 2.04 steals. The captain of the Warriors has also set a league record with 286 three-pointers. He posted a 28.06 player efficiency rating and earned the most votes for the All-Star Game in February.
The next player who stakes a worthy claim on the award is none other than James Harden. The highly talented shooting guard carried a comparatively weak team into being the second seed in one of the toughest conferences in the league by bagging 56 wins, trailing behind the Warriors. The 25 year-old averaged 27.4 points per game and thrived with 7 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. Harden also posted a player efficiency of 26.76.
Though both players are topping the votes, names like LeBron James, Russel Westbrook and Chris Paul have also been the talk of the league. Perhaps, it’s safe to say that the ultimate selection for MVP is still in progress.
