Former Asian Youth Games champion Vanessa Raj has booked her spot in the 2015 Richmond Open quarter-finals after demolishing Mexico’s Reyna Pacheco 3-0.
The Penang-born player, who arrived at the competition as the fifth seed, vanquished the Mexican with a 11-7, 11-3, 11-5 victory in the first round.
However, the upcoming squash star will be facing a tougher competitor in the last eight, with Japan’s Misaki Kobayashi, who is ranked 29th in the world, standing in her way.
The 25 year-old Japanese managed to set-up a quarter-final clash against the Malaysian when she easily dispatched Canada’s Melina Turk 11-1, 11-2, 11-4.
Meanwhile, another Malaysian squash player in the form of Nabilla Ariffin failed to advance in the tournament after being defeated by Colombia’s Catalina Palaez 11-4, 11-3, 11-9.
