Mercedes are showing positive signs ahead of this weekend’s China Grand Prix by dominating the first practice session that took place earlier today.
Lewis Hamilton was firing on all cylinders, finishing first ahead of Nico Rosberg by 0.5 seconds, while Sebastian Vettel finished third by being 1.1 seconds behind Hamilton.
Though Ferrari clinched the victory in Malaysia last time out, Mercedes’ early pace is already making them favourites to claim the win this weekend.
On the other hand, Red Bull bounced back from their struggle in Malaysia, with a better performance in the first practice. Carlos Sainz Jr finished eighth, ahead of Williams duo Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa.
Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso, returned from his injury at the Malaysian GP, was the seventh quickest after the first half-hour but failed to improve his timing after that.
