Set-piece situations can be incredibly important in a football match, and if executed properly, it could turn out to be the winning goal as well. That explains the myriad of free-kick ‘choreography’ that we’ve seen over the years.
But Notts County produced one that was absolutely sensational recently. The most crucial element of defending against a set-piece is focus. Remove that element and you have a scrambling defence that becomes way easier to penetrate.
This free-kick attempt from Notts County was brilliant because their actions distracted the defensive unit of Arsenal Ladies, who were initially focused on the mission at hand. That allowed Ellen White to effectively find the back of the net and put her side ahead on the 27th minute!
