Malaysia got their Sultan Azlan Shah campaign off to a terrible start after falling to a 4-2 defeat against New Zealand in Ipoh earlier today.
New Zealand were rampant from the get go, seizing 1-0 lead within 3 minutes of the game, before Simon Gild scored to make it 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
But Malaysia continued pressing on the offence, and Ramadan eventually scored in the second quarter to reduce the deficit and make it 2-1. After the half time break, they could have made it 2-2, but Razie could only hit the bar after they were gifted a penalty corner.
With seven minutes left on the clock, Shahrun Nabil restored parity to make it 2-2, which injected life back into the home crowd, though what came next was utterly unexpected.
Andy Haywood found the back of the net to make it 3-2, before Shay Neal netted a fourth goal at the death, to complete a fantastic comeback win, to start the tournament on a positive note.
