Malaysian GP pens contract extension till 2018

Malaysia’s hope of continuously being able to host a Formula One race is safe for the time being after the Malaysian Grand Prix signed a three-year contract extension.

Following months of doubt regarding the future of Malaysian GP, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak revealed that negotiations with the Formula One management has been successful and that the Sepang International Circuit will continue to host the race for the next three years.

But at the same time, Najib believes marketing strategies need to be amplified to attract more Malaysian fans, claiming that various organizations and ministries, including Tourism Malaysia, must work together in  strengthening the value behind the event.

“We need to create more excitement and buzz to lure more spectators,” he was quoted as saying by Asia One.

The Sepang International Circuit management have reportedly derived several ideas and plans for upcoming races, but it requires support from governmental bodies, especially in terms of promotion.
