The Hockenheim circuit management reportedly snubbed an offer of financial assistance to host the German GP, from dominant Formula One team, Mercedes.
Nürburgring was initially scheduled to host the July 19 Grand Prix though a change in management as well as financial difficulties prevented them from reaching an agreement with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
The FIA then announced on Friday that the German GP will be removed from the 2015 calendar after Hockenheim had declined the offer of hosting the race.
“The German GP is a core race on the Formula One calendar and we have a significant interest in this race taking place,” the German carmaker said in a statement.
“Mercedes-Benz has participated in discussions and offered a significant contribution to support a successful German GP, at the Hockenheimring, in 2015. This offer was unfortunately not accepted.”
According to reports, the Formula One team was willing to aid half of any potential losses and to pay for a significant amount of promotion. Despite that, the organizers were unwilling to risk any losses with the limited amount of time left for planning and proper execution.
