Dutch driver Giedo van der Garde believes that his future in Formula One has come to an end after agreeing to mutually terminate his contract with Sauber after a protracted legal saga.
Sauber had reportedly promised him a race seat in 2015, though they recently opted to feature Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericson, who are both heavily sponsored, in their starting line-up.
Van der Garde has vowed to take the matter to court, but after a drawn out legal saga, he opted to mutually terminate his contract with the Formula One side.
“We have reached a settlement with Sauber and my driver contract with the team has been ended by mutual consent,” Van der Garde said on Facebook.
“As a passionate race driver, I feel sad and am very disappointed. I have worked very hard my entire career, ever since starting with go-karts at the age of eight, to live my dream and become a successful Formula 1 driver,” Van der Garde said.
“I had hoped at last to be able to show what I am capable of, driving a car for a respected midfield team in the 2015 season. This dream has been taken away from me and I know that my future in Formula 1 is probably over.”
The Dutch driver went on to reveal that he is now looking to secure a drive in the World Endurance Championship and hopefully race at the Le Mans in an LMP1 car.
