Individuals from the Malaysian athletics contingent are struggling to make the SEA Games qualification mark, despite participating in several tournaments across Australia in recent weeks.
These national athletes were given an opportunity to do so, in order to prove their mettle, though none of them secured any result beyond the qualification mark, including World Championship qualifier Rayzam Syah Wan Sofian.
He secured a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles event in an Australian tournament that was held in Brisbane, finishing behind Australia’s Nicholas Hough and Saim Baines. However, his time of 14.11 seconds failed to pass the required timing of 14 seconds for SEA Games qualification.
Fortunately for Rayzam, he will be able to turn things around during the Malaysian Open, which will be held between the 26th and the 28th of March.
As of now, high jumper Nauraj Singh remains the only athlete to have qualified, though he did so even before departing to Australia for the series of tournaments.
