A Malaysian sports science PhD student has reportedly joined the backroom staff of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side, as reported by Harian Metro.
Firdaus Maasar, who previously had a short stint as Sime Darby U21’s fitness coach, is currently attached to Liverpool John Moores University, where is he completing his PhD in Sport and Exercise Physiology.

But as revealed in photos that were captured at Melwood, Firdaus is now providing sports science support for Liverpool, ahead of the new Premier League season.
In fact, a Liverpool Fan Club in Malaysia contacted Firdaus through Facebook, before obtaining clarification on the role he’s currently playing within Jurgen Klopp’s set-up.

“I’m a PhD student in Liverpool John Moores University and I’m currently supervised by the English FA and Liverpool FC under the Football Exchange program,” Firdaus explained.
“I’m currently part of a team that provides sports science support for Liverpool’s sports science department,” he added.
Ironically though, Firdaus is a Manchester United fan, as depicted in a photo of him donning a United kit on his Facebook profile!
