Lydia Ko of New Zealand completed the Olympic medal set at Le Golf National, finishing 10 under par to win her maiden gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Although Ko took home the bronze in Tokyo three years prior to winning the silver in Rio 2016, her triumph in Paris also brought her career total to the 27 points needed to be eligible for induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame.
Although she set up a nerve-wracking finish with a one-under 71, she was tied for the lead heading into the final round and took a five-shot lead on the back nine to put herself out of reach as her rivals withdrew.
Esther Henseleit of Germany nearly came up with her after shooting a six-under 66 to surge up the leaderboard and finish on eight under, unexpectedly winning the silver medal.
Xiyu Lin finished on seven under, one stroke ahead of fourth place, after nearly forcing a play-off for bronze with a birdie on the last hole.
Morgane Metraux of Switzerland had started the day as Ko’s co-leader, but her game imploded and she finished the event in 18th place. It was a day to forget.
On Saturday, Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang also found it difficult to keep up their pace as Ko surpassed them on the rankings.
