Paris 2024 Olympics: Jokic at the heart of Serbia’s overtime victory over Australia

Serbia won 95-90 in overtime at the Paris 2024 Olympics to make the greatest comeback in Olympic basketball history.

In Tuesday’s quarterfinal match, Serbia overcame a 24-point deficit behind 21 points from Nikola Jokic.

Jokic not only scored points but also grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out eight assists. With a solid performance, teammate Bogdan Bogdanovic finished with 17 points, five rebounds, and six assists.

After 13 minutes, Serbia led by 24 points, but they rallied in the third quarter to take the lead.

Bronze medallists for Tokyo 2020, Australia won the fourth quarter to push for the first overtime period of the match, which ended in a 78-78 victory for Jokic’s Serbia.

In the semifinals, they will play either Brazil or the defending Olympic champions, the United States.

Germany advanced to their first-ever Olympic semi-finals after defeating Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece 76-63 on the opposite side of the draw.

Despite Antetokounmpo’s 22 points, the World Cup champs are still undefeated in the competition.

The Germans overcame a 12-point deficit thanks to Franz Wagner’s 20 points, setting up a semi-final matchup with the victor of France versus Canada.

“I think it speaks to our maturity,” Wagner said. “We even talked about it at half-time, not everything’s going to go perfect all the time.
“So you kind of recover from that and adjust and react. I thought we did a good job of responding.”
