After coming back from the edge of loss to win a second Olympic bronze medal with an incredible 16-21, 22-20, 21-19 victory over the Danish pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik gave Malaysia its first medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Considering that the Danish team appeared to be winning with a 20-16 lead after winning the first game, this must be one of the most spectacular comebacks from the Malaysians. They saved four match points in the second game.
Chia-Soh needed to play a flawless game because they were down to nothing, and they delivered it by scoring the next six points to win the second game 22–20 and stun Astrup-Rasmussen.
Chia-Soh’s triumph stoked their enthusiasm once more, as they proceeded to take an 11-7 lead in the decisive game and were poised to win.
However, the Danish duo had different ideas, as they overcame a 13–17 deficit to win the following five points.
Once more, it was up to Chia-Soh to mount a comeback, and they succeeded admirably in doing so to seal the victory when Rasmussen’s return played right into his strengths.
Four guys hugged to celebrate the historic victory as the Malaysians celebrated with joy, with trainers Tan Bin Shen and Rexy Mainaky joining them.
With Chia-Soh’s triumph, Malaysia won their tenth badminton medal at the Olympics since the sport’s introduction in 1992.
