Paris 2024 Olympics: Alfred wins historic gold medal at 100m sprint

After storming to an incredible victory in the women’s 100-meter sprint in the Paris 2024 Olympics, Julien Alfred grabbed a historic Olympic medal for Saint Lucia.

When Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the five-time world and two-time Olympic 100-meter champion, withdrew from the race on Saturday, it lost a global celebrity.

However, Alfred put on an incredible performance at the Stade de France, delivering the star power as she won in 10.72 seconds.

The 23-year-old won the first Olympic medal for Saint Lucia in the process.

The current world champion Sha’Carri Richardson lost to Alfred in the end.

Richardson’s American colleague Melissa Jefferson crossed in third place, ahead of Daryll Neita of Great Britain.
