Paris 2024 Olympics: Joshua Cheptegei sets new Olympic record in 10,000m win

Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda won gold in the men’s 10,000-meter final in Paris, setting a new Olympic record.

At 26 minutes and 43.14 seconds, world record holder Cheptegei won the race on Friday at the Stade de France.

For most of the race, the 27-year-old stayed near the rear, but with three laps to go, he perfectly timed a late charge.

With around 500 meters left, Cheptegei took the lead and held on to defeat Berihu Aregawi of Ethiopia to win the major prize.

Cheptegei is the first Ugandan to win two gold medals at the Olympics in any event.

The United States’ Grant Fisher took bronze.
