Moussa Diaby set to make Saudi Pro League switch just one year after arriving at Villa Park

Moussa Diaby of Aston Villa has reportedly finalised his £50 million move to Al-Ittihad, the Premier League team announced on Wednesday.

After joining from Bayer Leverkusen, Diaby became Villa’s record acquisition and contributed to Unai Emery’s team’s Champions League participation the previous year.

In 54 appearances across all competitions, the 25-year-old scored 10 goals, three of which came during their Europa Conference League semifinal run.

Diaby joins fellow countrymen N’Golo Kante and Karim Benzema at the team, but the latter has been connected to a move back to the Premier League.

After dropping four of their final six games to miss out on qualifying for the AFC Champions League Two group stage, Al-Ittihad finished fifth in the Saudi Pro League the previous season.

Diaby thanked fans on social media, writing: “Villans, thank you for everything. It’s time to say goodbye. I’d like to thank the club, the team members, the staff and everyone working at Aston Villa.
“I’ve always given my best to help the club and the team, we’ve had some great moments that will stay in my memory. We’ve had a fantastic season, with moments of joy and happiness.
“Together, we’ve achieved our objectives. The club will be playing in the Champions League next year and I wish them success. It’s a season I will remember forever. Villans, I won’t forget you.”
