Euro 2024 – Slovenia vs Serbia: Jovic scores last minute equaliser to keep Serbia in Euro 2024

Serbia held Slovenia to a 1-1 draw, earning a crucial point thanks to a spectacular equaliser from Luka Jovic that prevented their opponents from winning at the European Championships for the first time.

Slovenia appeared to have secured a historic victory by a goal from Zan Karnicnik in the second half, but in the 96th minute, substitute Jovic headed a cross from Ivan Ilic into the bottom corner, setting off wild celebrations among the Serbian fans.

Timi Elsnik struck the post, and Benjamin Sesko pushed the rebound over the bar, giving Slovenia, who had been the more aggressive team for the majority of the game, a near-lead.

When Serbia finally got going, Jan Oblak was brilliant. Aleksandar Mitrovic was twice denied by the goalie before hitting the crossbar from close range, while Jaka Bijol nearly mishandled a cross into his own net.

After that, Slovenia took the lead thanks to a goal from Karnicnik, who slipped in at the back post. However, Jovic’s header put them ahead, and if England defeats Denmark on Thursday, they will win Group C.
