Read up on all the matches including Klopp and Pep’s final battle in the Premier League.
Man Utd 2 – 0 Everton
At Old Trafford, United defeated Everton 2-0 thanks to goals from Fernandes and Rashford in the first half. Even though his squad had an xG of 1.48, Dyche was nonetheless frustrated to see his club’s winless streak in the Premier League stretch to 11 games.
United won two penalties as Ten Hag’s team took full advantage of their careless tackles and inefficient attacking play.
After Tarkowski initially stumbled, captain Fernandes seized control of the situation and curled his shot into the bottom-right corner. After a deft run by the Argentine, Godfrey was the next player to crash into Garnacho inside the box.
United became just the third side in Premier League history to have two different players score penalties in the first half when Rashford hammered his effort into the opposite corner. Despite having 12 attempts in the second half, Everton was unable to convert any of their opportunities.
Their greatest chance fell to Dobbin, but he misdirected his shot across the goal and out of danger. Next, in the FA Cup quarterfinals, United will host Liverpool. In three weeks, Everton travels to Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace 1 – 1 Luton Town
A 1-1 tie at Selhurst Park results in a point split for Crystal Palace and Luton Town. In the last third, the Eagles looked more dangerous and had the better start. They scored the first goal quickly.
After taking advantage of a mistake made by Doughty in the back, Munoz around the goalie and Mateta flicked his pass into the box for the goal. For a brief while, Glasner’s team persisted in their attack, but Palace had a slim lead at the half. The home team had numerous opportunities to end the game in the second half, but Mateta missed one from a short distance.
The Hatters gave it everything they had in the closing seconds and eventually equalised, so the 1-0 lead was always going to be precarious. In the dying moments, Woodrow was there to head home Townsend’s risky cross into the box after he worked the ball onto his left.
Luton will travel to play Bournemouth in the Premier League on Wednesday, while Palace’s next match is not until March 30th, when they take on Nottingham Forest.
Bournemouth 2 – 2 Sheffield United
In the 27th minute, Gustavo Hamer gave the Blades the lead following Dominic Solanke’s missed penalty.
After 64 minutes, Jack Robinson extended United’s lead, but United, whose XG was 1.27 while their opponent’s was 2.65, could not hold on for the full three points.
Ten minutes later, Dango Outtara gave the home team a response, and in the first minute of stoppage time, Enes Unal snatched a point with a volley. Chris Wilder’s team moves off the bottom of the Premier League table despite not being able to hold on, while Bournemouth stays in 13th place and is 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
Wednesday sees the Cherries play host to Luton Town, while United’s next game is at home to Fulham on March 30.
Wolves 2 – 1 Fulham
The home team were destined for a battle after losing two more strikers to injury before the half, but Ait-Nouri’s first goal and an own goal by Cairney gave them an edge they didn’t seem to be willing to give up.
Fulham’s quest for a third consecutive victory comes to an end as they were unable to break through until well into second-half stoppage time, despite Tosin’s effort against the bar and some outstanding stops from Sa.
The West Midlands team, who now sit six points ahead of the Cottagers in the Premier League standings, has defeated the London team in 44 attempts, but the London team has failed to complete the league double.
Wolves will play Coventry City in the FA Cup quarterfinals next week, while Fulham has to recover before playing Tottenham.
Arsenal 2 – 1 Brentford
With a powerful header past Flekken, Rice gave the Gunners the lead, and they maintained that advantage until the end of the half. Wissa lunged ahead to exert pressure on Ramsdale, who hesitated to clear the ball; as a result, the throw was blocked and went over the line.
Though Rice did hit the woodwork with a fantastic long-range strike at the opposite end, the custodian made up for his mistake by making great saves to deny Toney and Collins to keep his team level.
Havertz nodded in the game’s winning goal in the 86th minute from close range, but it’s debatable whether the German player should have been on the field at all after escaping with a second booking.
Arteta’s team will now focus on their midweek Champions League last 16 second leg matchup against Porto. Five points above the relegation zone, in 15th place, is where Brentford remains. The following weekend, they go to Burnley.
Aston Villa 0 – 4 Tottenham
Tottenham defeated Villa 4-0 at Villa Park thanks to four goals in a commanding second half performance, securing their place in the Champions League for the next season.
Spurs were a very different team after the restart, having only produced an xG of 0.03 before to the break. The visitors took the lead when Maddison poked in Sarr’s cross, and Postecoglou’s team took control when Johnson struck the roof of the net with his shot 207 seconds later.
When McGinn was sent off for a horrific tackle on Udogie, Villa’s situation only grew worse. It took them 84 minutes to get their first shot on goal. Spurs scored twice in stoppage time, displaying their ruthlessness.
Son scored his second goal in two games after smashing a shot past Martinez from within the box. A few moments later, he assisted Werner. Spurs have played one fewer game and are only two points behind Villa in fourth place.
Next week, they head to Fulham in search of their third straight victory. Villa, who have given up two goals or more in three straight games, will face Ajax in the second leg of their Europa Conference League semifinal match.
West Ham 2 – 2 Burnley
With a 2-0 advantage at the interval, the Clarets were clearly the more skilled team after Fofana scored a fierce first goal and Mavrapanos’ own goal gave the hosts a mountain to climb.
That was rather different in the second half, though, as Paqueta cut the margin in half before a minute had passed.
After Ings, a former Burnley player, had an equaliser disallowed by the VAR for offside, he quickly responded with a deft turn and volley to tie the score. There were late opportunities for both teams to win, and you believe that a point does neither team any favours.
After finishing with an xG of 1.93 and a 52% advantage in possession, the home team will once more focus on the Europa League the following week. With an xG of 0.65, Burnley was unable to pose a threat to the Hammers in the second half. The Clarets will aim to duplicate their first-half display in the league against Brentford.
Brighton 1 – 0 Nottingham Forest
Although Brighton forced goalkeeper Sels to work hard, Omobamidele would ultimately cause his teammate the most trouble because his own goal just before the half-hour mark proved to be the game-winning score.
On the opposite end, Verbruggen held firm against Nuno’s team, saving one of Origi’s two noteworthy attempts to tie the score, while watching the other go into the stands.
Brighton moves up to seventh place and takes on Roma in their second leg of the Europa League round of 16. While this is going on, Forest is still keeping an eye on the relegation zone in 17th position and preparing for this Saturday’s big match against Luton Lown, who is in 18th place.
Liverpool 1 – 1 Man City
Stones’ goal from De Bruyne’s corner put the champions up at the half, but they had a terrible start to the second half as Ake’s clumsy back ball allowed Ederson to give up a penalty for a foul on Nunez.
After Ederson was forced off with an injury, Mac Allister scored to tie the score at one. Liverpool then surrounded the City goal. Although Diaz and Nunez missed their finest opportunities, City’s Foden and Doku struck the woodwork twice against the run of play.
Both sides have to settle for a draw in the end, though Liverpool may wonder why they weren’t given another penalty chance when Doku seemed to have caught Mac Allister with a high boot deep into stoppage time.
Chelsea 3 – 2 Newcastle
Chelsea celebrates a major victory after holding on to defeat Newcastle United 3-2 and closing the gap on their rivals and the top half to just one point.
Although Newcastle’s scorelines are still entertaining, they won’t look back on this match with nostalgia because the Blues were only nervous in the last few minutes.
Isak cancelled out Jackson’s opening goal, but a careless period of play by Newcastle in the second half saw Palmer give the home team the lead again. Murphy’s incredible late goal proved to be little more than solace as Mudryk added a third on the counterattack.
Now, both teams’ focus is on the FA Cup, with Newcastle playing Manchester City and Chelsea hosting Leicester City at home.
