Luton Town vs Man United: Hojlund double helps United survive scare against the Hatters

Manchester United defeated Luton 2-1 in a difficult match thanks to a record-breaking double from Rasmus Hojlund. It was the team’s fourth straight league win, moving Erik ten Hag’s team closer to the top four.

The 21-year-old put United ahead within seven minutes, becoming the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six consecutive games. He finished expertly after Amari’i Bell made a mistake, and then he immediately chested in Alejandro Garnacho’s corner kick after 36 seconds.

After a brilliant first fifteen minutes, Carlton Morris pulled one back, and Luton had many excellent chances to tie the score as they placed United under pressure. Casemiro was lucky not to be sent out after lunging at Ross Barkley while already on a card.

United were more settled after the break – with Casemiro taken off at the interval – and should have put the game to bed as Bruno Fernandes and Garnacho both failed to score despite both rounding Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser until the last kick of the game – with Barkley hitting the bar – but Rob Edwards queried the amount of added time in the second half, saying: “I don’t know where that one came from. Man Utd are winning 2-1 so it’s four minutes.”

Luton play Liverpool on Wednesday while United host Fulham on Saturday.
