Manchester City and Chelsea drew 1-1 thanks to a late equaliser from Rodri, but the defending champions fell behind in the fight for the Premier League crown.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team had a well-earned lead at halftime thanks to a breakaway goal from Raheem Sterling against his old team, and Chelsea had opportunities to increase their lead. As City pressed, Erling Haaland missed many chances to equalise.
However, Rodri’s left-footed shot deflected off Trevor Chalobah and into the net, giving Pep Guardiola’s team the goal they needed. They pushed for the win, which led to several brawls in the Chelsea box, but in an exciting game, they had to settle for a draw.
With their effort, Pochettino’s players proved their worth, as the draw helped them move back above Wolves and into the top half of the standings. City might be more sorry for the lost points. They currently trail Liverpool, the league leaders, by four points in third place.
Man City play Brentford on Tuesday before travelling to Bournemouth on Saturday.
Chelsea take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
