This summer, Kylian Mbappe will depart from Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe, whose contract expires in the summer, informed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his decision on Tuesday.
When Mbappe’s departure from PSG is confirmed, PSG anticipates that he will sign with Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Whether Mbappe will depart for a fee or forgo his own salary is still up for negotiation between the two parties. Mbappe has promised PSG that he won’t ever sign a free transfer.
It’s thought that in the upcoming months, Mbappe and PSG will formally announce his departure.
The 25-year-old forward, who would have to forgo a rise to play for the Spanish team, is a long-term target for Real Madrid, who is willing to offer him the largest salary in team history.
In August 2021, PSG rejected a €220 million (£188 million) offer from Real Madrid for Mbappe. After that, the attacker decided to sign a new three-year contract with PSG, which runs out this summer.
In the upcoming transfer window, Mbappe’s value to PSG would be €150 million (£128 million) if he were to extend his contract by an additional year. Last summer, they accepted a €300 million (£256 million) offer from the Saudi club Al Hilal, which Mbappe declined.
The next phase in PSG’s strategy to get past the individualistic Galacticos era and favour a younger team that is more focused on the group will be Mbappe’s departure. When Neymar, Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, and Marco Verratti were let to move on, this all started.
The club will have more money to spend on a replacement for their top player now that Mbappe is leaving, having cost PSG €200 million (£171 million) a year. It is believed that many signings are already planned for this summer.
PSG’s new venture has been launched by Warren Zaire-Emery, 17, and Bradley Barcola, 21, with the French team fielding the youngest team in the Champions League this year. Another player seen as crucial to PSG’s future is 20-year-old Xavi Simons, who is now on loan at RB Leipzig.
Simons and Zaire-Emery are expected to receive contract extensions from PSG, and Barcola signed a five-year contract in the summer after joining from Lyon.
Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero said: “Inside the club, everyone is positive, especially Florentino Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez. They are the ones who know what is going to happen. They believe in March or April that Mbappe will tell the club – not publicly – where he is going to play.
“Everybody inside the club believes he is going to play for Real Madrid but let’s see what happens, especially in the next weeks.
“At Real Madrid, the player that earns the most is on €24m [£20m] per year. Real, it has been reported, could offer him €25m [£21m] after tax, so around €50m [£43m] before tax.
“Inside Real Madrid they believe that the amount of money Kylian has earned in the last two or three years is down in part to the famous £200m bid Real Madrid made to sign him before he signed a contract extension at PSG.
“The club believe that the money he has earned, in part, is thanks to Real Madrid’s offer that was rejected by PSG.”
