Leverkusen 3-2 RB Leipzig: Xabi Alonso’s side keep up winning ways

Leverkusen continue their unbeaten run with a hard fought victory over RB Leipzig.

Leipzig took the lead in the 7th minute when Xaver Schlager crossed the ball in to wonderkid Xavi Simons, who skillfully flicked the ball up, spinned around and volleyed it into the bottom corner.

Leverkusen equalised 2 minutes into the second half when in-form wingback Alex Grimaldo played a ball through past all Leipzig defenders for Nathan Tella to tap it in.

9 minutes later Lois Openda finished off a wonderfully worked team goal to put Leipzig 2-1 up.

Xabi Alonso’s side proved why they’re one of the most dangerous sides from corners in Europe right now when Jonas Hofmann crossed the ball in for Jonathan Tah to head it in to equalise for Leverkusen.

Piero Hincapié completed the comeback for Leverkusen from a corner in the 91st minute. Alex Grimaldo got his second assist in the game when he swung in a corner that was ricocheted around the box before Hincapié tapped it in at the far post.

Leverkusen host Mönchengladbach next on January 28 while Leipzig travel to Stuttgart on January 27
