Atletico Madrid crush Real Madrid’s dream of a treble this season with goals from Griezmann and Riquelme sealing the deal.
Atleti opened the scoring in the 39th minute of the game after Rodrigo De Paul’s cross was helped on to the back post by Real defender Antonio Rudiger, and the ball fell kindly to Samuel Lino who calmly put away the shot.
6 minutes later, Luka Madrid swung in a free kick that Jan Oblak fumbled into his own net, this allowed Real to equalise just before half-time.
12 minutes after half time, Alvaro Morata capitalised on a defensive error from keeper Andriy Lunin allowed for an open goal.
Real would go on to struggle to finish their chances but had their lucky break in the 82nd minute when Vini Jr played a ball through to Jude Bellingham who then crossed it across goal to Joselu to head it home. This goal brought relieve to Ancelotti’s side as they headed into extra time.
In the 100th minute of the game Antoine Greizmann grabbed the headlines on his 174th appearance for the club, setting a new record and slotting the ball into the top corner to send the Wanda Metropolitano into euphoria.
Deep in the second half of extra time, Atleti sprung a counter attack where Memphis Depay played a ball through to Rodrigo Riquelme who put it past Lunin to knock Real out of the competition.
Atleti will now look ahead for their Copa Del Rey Quarter Final draw next.
